BestPerfumePerfume was born from a simple frustration: finding honest, useful information about fragrances is surprisingly difficult. Reviews are either overly promotional, written by people with no actual experience wearing the scents, or so technical they are impossible to apply to real-life purchasing decisions. We decided to build something different.
Our Philosophy
We believe fragrance is one of the most personal forms of self-expression. A scent triggers memory, communicates mood, and becomes part of how people remember you. That is not trivial. Which means finding the right fragrance should not be treated trivially either.
Every review, guide and tool on this site is built around one question: will this fragrance actually make someone's life better? Not whether it has prestigious marketing or a famous face attached to it. Not whether it follows whatever trend is currently popular in the fragrance industry. We care whether the juice is worth wearing.
What Makes Us Different
Three things we refuse to compromise on:
- Independence. We do not accept payment from fragrance houses for coverage. Our opinions are not for sale. If a fragrance is mediocre, we say so — even if declining to review it positively means we miss out on press samples.
- Honesty about subjectivity. Fragrance is inherently personal. What smells magnificent to one person can smell ordinary to another. We describe what a fragrance smells like, how it performs, and who it suits — and we are clear when we are describing our own experience versus generally accepted consensus.
- Practical utility. Our tools and guides are designed to help you make a decision, not to generate page views. If something on this site is not useful, we want to know about it so we can improve or remove it.
The Team
We are a small group of fragrance enthusiasts who have collectively worn and studied several hundred perfumes over the past decade. Our backgrounds are varied — a former perfume counter consultant, a fragrance chemist, a fashion editor who covered beauty for six years, and a few passionate amateurs who simply fell deeply into the world of scent and never really climbed back out.
We are based in several countries, which actually helps: fragrance preferences and availability vary enormously by region, and having team members in Europe, North America and Asia means we catch biases that a single-market publication would miss.
Our Review Standards
Every fragrance we feature has been personally tested by at least one team member wearing it in real conditions — not just sniffed from a strip. We wear fragrances for a full day before forming an opinion. We test longevity, projection, how they interact with skin chemistry, and whether they actually improve on repeated wearing. We update reviews when we receive credible reports of reformulations or significant performance changes.
